Demonstration day provides Profibus guidance

A Hi-Port Software product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team May 2, 2008

The demonstration day will provide a better understanding of the challenges and techniques now available to ensure successful deployment and operation of Profibus networks.

The UK Profibus International Competence Centre at Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU) is hosting a demonstration day on 15th May, 2008.

Engineering staff from Procentec in Holland will show their updated ProfiTrace range of versatile Profibus test equipment and software.

ProfiTrace 2 combines an analyser, oscilloscope, bar graph, DP-V0/V1 master, topology scan and report generator into a single package.

The Procentec range of equipment covers the whole-life requirement for engineering and diagnostics for Profibus systems from initial installation checks and commissioning, through to health condition monitoring and fault finding.

Modern high-speed field bus communications networks demand special tools to rapidly track faults to specific devices and to verify successful operation following replacement or repairs.

Procentec has released the ProfiCore Ultra, with a built-in DP oscilloscope and offering measurement of driver voltages and report printing of network parameters.

A new topology scan feature will be released shortly.

The presentation at the MMU is intended to demonstrate the new tools and show how they can benefit an organisation in reducing commissioning costs and production downtime.

The Procentec ProfiHub five-way spur hubs/repeaters will also be demonstrated.

ProfiTrace is used at the MMU by the instructors for all of their Profibus engineering courses, from basic principles (Certified Installer) through to advanced (Certified Engineer) levels.

The MMU is the only Profibus Certified Competency Centre in the UK and runs regular courses to cover all the needs of the engineering community.

The demonstration day will appeal to maintenance engineers, design engineers, company strategists and plant/process managers, offering a better understanding of the challenges and techniques now available to ensure successful deployment and operation of these control and instrumentation networks.
