The MICE family is a new range of manageable, modular Ethernet and Fast Ethernet industrial switches setting new standards in industrial Ethernet networking.

The MICE (modular industrial communication equipment) family is a new range of manageable, modular Ethernet and Fast Ethernet industrial switches setting new standards in industrial Ethernet networking.

Each switch unit has an integrated backplane capable of carrying up to two media modules (with twisted-pair or fibre-optic ports or both for a variety of connection types), depending on the requirements of the application - making the offer truly modular and flexible.

The switch unit is compact in size and shape allowing it to be used both centrally in the switch cabinet and also in small distribution boxes.

Compliance with industrial standards, as well as a redundant 24V power supply and support for Hiper-Ring ensure the high availability of the network, thus making the range ideal for use in industrial environments.

The switches and media modules allow connections on 10baseT, 10baseFL, 100baseTX or 100baseFX standards.

For connecting other network components and terminal equipment, the media modules can have up to four ports each connections can be made via twisted-pair cable, single-mode optical fibre or multimode optical fibre.

The switch unit can be DIN-rail mounted and the media modules are easily and quickly attached to its backplane.

The modules can be labelled and related connections identified via large area labelling fields.

Highly visible LEDs make operating parameters easy to read.

Detailed information on the operating state of the switch can be displayed using a standard web browser or centrally via the integrated SNMP interface (using network management software such as Hirschmannûs HiVision offering).

All MICE components meet the usual industrial standards, such as those relating to EMI emission and immunity, resistance to vibration, and thermal stability.

The fanless cooling and redundant 24V power supply also contribute to high reliability.

A further important feature is the support for both new and existing Hiper-Rings.

Here the switches are connected in a ring rather than a star or bus topology.

In the case of malfunctions in the data network, for instance cable breaks, full network availability is restored within 500ms.

In this way the industrial demands of high network availability are always ensured.
