A new high-performance blast-cleaning system which greatly reduces abrasive usage in removing thick and difficult coatings is now available in the UK from Hodge Clemco The Thermoblast system uses the principles of jet engine technology to propel abrasive in a heated air stream out of the nozzle at eight to ten times the speed of conventional equipment

As a result, coatings several millimetres thick can be removed easily in a single pass, including difficult materials such as vulcanised or bituminous coatings, epoxies, glass flakes, polyurethanes and enamels.

The effectiveness of the system reduces abrasive usage by 66 to 75% compared with conventional pressure blast equipment, so abrasive costs are lower, and less dust and waste material are produced.

The rapid cleaning rates achieved also bring savings in air consumption, which can be significant for large surface preparation projects.

The Thermoblast system produces a high-quality finish which provides a particularly good surface for metallisation or applying anticorrosive coatings.

It is suitable for use on metals, stone, concrete, wood, plastics, bitumen and rubber, using a wide variety of hard and soft media.
