Interact, the ground-breaking fit and forget machine actuator from Hoerbiger-Origa that combines the finesse of fieldbus control with the might of pneumatic power has won this year's MIAA (Manufacturing Industry Achievement Award), Design for Manufacture Innovation The presentation at a glittering gala dinner in the Grosvenor House, Park Lane is recognised as one of the highlights of the engineering year

Prizes are presented to celebrate every aspect of engineering, each representing months of dedication and effort by the contenders.

The MIAAs reward excellence in manufacturing, honour technical and engineering achievements and promote the most innovative aspects of technology and its application.

Hoerbiger-Origa launched Interact earlier this year, to immediate acclaim from potential users and industry commentators alike.

It is a range of intelligent pneumatic actuators with fully integrated pneumatic control and ASI fieldbus connectivity, which provides linear movements for automated machines and processes.

So neat is the design that they are truly 'fit and forget' units, with their installation requiring only the simple connection of one air supply and one electrical cable.

"The interest generated in Interact with machine builders, OEMs and end-users across the country is tremendous" said Hoerbiger-Origa's Marketing Manager Ray Barnes at the ceremony.

"We seem to have timed its launch just right, catching the wave of interest in fieldbus control solutions that is now surging through UK industry." Another reason for its success that Barnes identifies is that with the Interact approach the entire system is relatively simple and logical, offering an easy progression from traditional PLC systems.

"Engineers are always looking for simple solutions to difficult problems.

Interact's installational and operational simplicity means high reliability, saving time and money for today's busy engineers." Hoerbiger-Origa is no stranger to cutting edge technology in pneumatics.

The company has its founding roots in the invention of the now ubiquitous rodless cylinder and is the world leader in the emerging technology of piezo-pneumatics.

"Constant innovation and technical development are our core skills," says Barnes.

"Today we're are pushing the envelope with Interact, just as we did with rodless cylinders 20 years ago.

We strive always to maintain a technology lead on our competitors, to anticipate what the market wants next and to know how best to introduce it." Steve Davies, Managing Director after receiving the award commented ".

this is a great achievement for the Hoerbiger-Origa, it is a testament to the successful collaboration of our European group of companies in bringing together development and marketing expertise to address the changing needs of our global customers.
