Actuators get control system on board!
Interact, a new range of intelligent pneumatic actuators from Hoerbiger-Origa, incorporates all ancillary control equipment, including an ASi fieldbus interface, into a standard drive unit.
New sizes for roller bearing system
Guideline, Hoerbiger-Origa's highly successful aluminium profile roller bearing system, has been expanded to include new sizes and options to address an even wider scope of applications.
Both have had long careers in engineering and bring with them a wealth of experience in the field of pneumatics and of providing automation solutions to manufacturing industry.
Additionally Nigel Smith has been promoted to Product Manager for the company's entire range of machine actuation products, including electric linear drives, rodless cylinders, specialist pneumatics, control technologies and "macro solutions".
Previously Smith focused on electric drives, a particular growth area for the company, which itself has been expanded with the recent recruitment of Rob Greenhalgh as a dedicated Application Engineer for electric drives and controls.

Actuators, linear drives and more in CAD catalogue
A new 2D/3D CAD catalogue encompasses virtually the complete Hoerbiger-Origa range and includes actuators, linear drives and guides, valves, cylinders, air preparation, piezo technology and more
"Electric drives is our fastest growing product sector, and with some major expansions to our range being introduced we are expecting the rate of growth to increase further yet", says Smith.
"The market is at an interesting stage in which the users' perception of the technology has passed the initial wariness stage and they are now confidently finding new applications and switching over from other actuation methods".
He adds that Interact, the fieldbus-enabled range of actuators, and piezo, the ultra low powered intrinsically safe actuation technology, are also seeing significant growth, although from smaller bases.
"Both technologies are becoming more widely accepted and potential users are now regularly contacting us with viable projects and a good understanding of these concepts.
This is a massive change compared to the products' launch periods when most people were interested only on an academic level".
Hoerbiger-Origa always positions itself on the leading edge of technology.
Its beginnings were as the developer of the rodless pneumatic cylinder, and it has since built a portfolio of innovative product ranges.
Hoerbiger-Origa's UK Managing Director, Ray Barnes, explains the strategy: "We are not focused on the commodity component level of the automation market.
Our mission is to provide innovative and optimal solutions to customers and where appropriate to introduce the adoption of new technologies and new ideas.
This opens new opportunities for us in markets that are quite distinct from the more traditional manufacturing industries in which pneumatics are normally associated, for example: biotech, pharmaceuticals, leisure and entertainment equipment, fast-food preparation and delivery systems, public transport".
