Hydraulic fluid offers fire resistance

Celsa Steel UK changed to Houghton's Houghto-Safe HFB100 invert emulsion because of its excellent performance and the technical support that Houghton could offer.

Houghton has introduced its fire-resistant hydraulic fluid, Houghto-Safe HFB100, into the mill control systems at Celsa Steels' Castle Works site.

Celsa Steel UK is the largest producer of reinforcement bars in the United Kingdom and one of the largest manufacturers of other steel long products.

Celsa's rod and bar mill at the Castle Works site in South Wales is capable of producing 890,000 tonnes of varied reinforcing bar, coil and wire rod per annum.

Celsa Steel UK changed to Houghton's Houghto-Safe HFB100 invert emulsion because of its excellent performance and the technical support that Houghton could offer.

Houghto-Safe HFB100 reduces fire risks where hydraulic equipment operates near flames and hot surfaces.

It is particularly suited to systems that require a balanced combination of fire resistance, cost and good lubrication, making it ideal for the application at Castle Works.

Houghton already supplies Houghto-Safe 620 fire-resistant hydraulic fluid and Mouldlubric 8035 release lubricant to the melt shop at Celsa's nearby Tremorfa plant, where cast steel billets are produced.

Houghton has recently installed storage tanks and distribution pipe work for these products to comply with the latest oil storage regulations.

In addition, Houghton has been contracted to manage the complete lubrication system at Celsa's Tremorfa site.
