The achievement of OHSAS 18001 in addition to ISO14001 endorses Honeywell's objective of providing an environmentally caring organisation that is mindful of employees' health and safety.
It is the latest part of Honeywell's management systems strategy, which began with ISO 9000 series certification in 1987 and now includes all the current recognised management systems standards.
OHSAS 18001 requires the presence of formal health and safety management systems.
It incorporates a structured approach to hazard identification and risk management.
This can contribute to reduced accident risk and fewer occupational health problems throughout Honeywell Control Systems, which designs and manufactures products, systems and services for homes, buildings and industry.
The awarding of OHSAS 18001 certification resulted from a final two-week certification audit carried out by Lloyds Register Quality Assurance (LRQA).
The audit included a number of Honeywell Control Systems' branch locations as well as Honeywell operations resident on its customers' sites.
"Wherever the auditor went, he was impressed with the way we manage potential hazards in the workplace," revealed Dennis Guest, Honeywell UK Health and Safety Manager.
"The system makes health and safety management more effective by translating risk assessments into action plans to achieve a reduction in accidents." Observed Alan Wright, Vice-President of Honeywell Sensing and Control Europe and also Honeywell UK Country Manager, "OHSAS 18001 marks another step in our strategy of continuous improvement and customer satisfaction.
With both ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001, Honeywell is shown to be a responsible employer that cares for its employees and neighbours.
The twin achievements are also a differentiator, adding value and setting Honeywell apart from its competitors.".
