In November 2004, Ondrives of Chesterfield supplied some of its standard P40 worm and wheel reduction gearboxes to production automation expert Barr and Paatz of Totnes for end use in high volume contact lens production.

The Ondrives gearboxes were chosen because of their compact, robust, low backlash, lightweight and easy to mount capabilities as they are used as precision 90-degree reduction drives on Rexroth Bosch servomotors, which are integrated as auxiliary axes into a robot motion controller.

The precise positioning of various tools relative to a circular array of components arranged on a transport pallet, is central to the critical first stage of the production process.
