The Hart plant of the year award is presented annually by the Hart Communication Foundation (HCF) to recognise innovative use of Hart communication in real-time industrial process plant applications The foundation is currently seeking candidates for recognition in 2003

"We are looking for a plant that has taken the capabilities of Hart instruments beyond configuration and calibration", says HCF Executive Director Ron Helson.

"Or a plant that is using real-time diagnostics and process variables of Hart-enabled devices with its control and information systems".

Users can nominate themselves or suppliers can recommend a plant for recognition.

Nominations should include a brief description of how the plant uses Hart communication to improve plant operations, better manage plant assets, or support plant information needs.

Background information and supporting materials are welcome, but are not required for full consideration.

"We are looking for real-time integration of diagnostics and multivariable implementations with control and information systems", Helson adds.

"Our decision will be based on how well Hart is utilised, not on the size of the installation".

The 2002 Hart plant of the year was the DuPont DeLisle titanium dioxide manufacturing plant in Pass Christian, Mississippi.

DuPont uses Hart Communication in real-time applications with control and safety systems.

"Their accomplishments and innovative application significantly improve plant performance and serve as a powerful model of how to realise greater benefits from Hart Communication", Helson says.
