Coaxial screw rail saves space and cuts costs
Huco's new, integrated lead screw and rail system - Kerk 'S' Rail - is a boon for designers looking for space savings.
This is a highly competitive market, and to hold its own against cheap foreign imports, this small Doncaster-based engineering company has to choose its suppliers wisely.
Its machines are known for their reliability and durability but tight margins dictate that these qualities have to be achieved through components that carry a keen price tag.
With these criteria very much in mind, Specialised Harvesting chose the Huco Clevis to form part of a linkage to open a lid door that releases a plant at a specific moment.
The clevis is a forked connector.
It is mounted onto a threaded rod, secured with a lock nut and transmits motion by means of a pin which straddles the forks.
Three styles of pin can be specified with these devices.
Functionally, they differ only in the method used to retain them in position.
The fact that this pin is a replaceable part is an important factor for Chris Windle, the machine's designer.
"The component is not under great strain but it does have to work in a dusty environment", he explains.
To transfer the drive along the line of the planter units, Specialised Harvesting also employs Huco's universal ball and socket joint.
Manufactured to DIN71802, this joint features induction hardened balls to resist wear.
Security clips retain the threaded ball studs in their sockets and spanner flats are provided on the stud.
"The option to lubricate the Huco joint enhances its durability", Windle concludes. Request a free brochure from Huco Dynatork ...
