The high torsional stiffness of the Hucoflex M membrane coupler made it the natural choice for measurement systems manufacturer Micro-Vu.
It stands to reason that if the purpose of a product is to verify the manufacturing accuracy of others, its components must themselves be high and consistent performers.
The excellent positional integrity achieved due to the high torsional stiffness of Huco's Hucoflex M membrane coupler therefore made it the natural choice for measurement systems manufacturer Micro-Vu.
Micro-Vu designs and manufactures a broad range of noncontact measuring machines including automated vision systems, manual video systems and optical comparators.
These are used to inspect a wide variety of materials, parts and assemblies from sheet metal and injected plastics to O-rings and PCBs.
Huco's Hucoflex M is used on the Micro-Vu Matrix Vision measuring machines that are specifically designed for the automatic inspection of large parts.
The coupling drives a ballscrew that guides the vision system along the inspection bed.
It maintains x-y accuracy to within 10um over 2.35m of travel; repeatability is also 10um.
Huco developed its Hucoflex M specifically for applications such as these.
As well as being eminently suitable for use in high resolution measuring devices, this model is also widely specified for high gain velocity or motion control systems, position-critical frictional loads, dynamometers, precision encoders etc.
This coupling is part of Huco's family of metal flexure devices that include bellows couplings at the rigid end of the torsional stiffness scale.
They maximise the flexural properties of thin metallic sections to provide the fundamental requirements of transmitting torque and accommodating misalignment.
Metal flexure couplings have no moving parts and absorb shaft end-float.
The size 41 Hucoflex M was chosen by Micro-Vu for its torsional accuracy of 2710Nm/rad and ability to accommodate up to 4 degrees of angular misalignment.
