Bellows couplings expand into new applications

A Huco Dynatork product story

New sizes of bellows couplings provide peak torque capability in excess of 200Nm and there are now four ranges from which to choose the ideal product for the application.

With the popularity of Huco's bellows couplings at an all time high, the company has again extended its comprehensive range.

New sizes will enable Huco to provide peak torque capability in excess of 200Nm and there are now four ranges from which to choose the ideal product for the application.

The characteristics the stainless steel and nickel ranges all have in common are their high torsional stiffness, low spring rates - resulting in minimal radial and axial bearing loads - and an exceptional ability to translate motion accurately and effectively.

All these couplings have no moving parts and can deliver excellent quality of motion at high rotational speeds.

The original Huco stainless steel bellows couplings, Huco Flex-B stainless steel bellows, are available in three standard configurations - short, long and stretched - each with different characteristics to provide a wide choice for designers seeking high performance in precision motion systems.

The stainless steel bellows are fastened to the hubs by a unique swaging technique that overcomes the uncertainties of bonding or soldering.

The convolutions are torsionally rigid but elastic in the lateral and longitudinal planes.

This type of bellows coupling is limited to a peak torque of 12.5Nm.

In common with existing versions, this range is rated for continuous uni- and bidirectional rotation and when dynamically balanced rotation can be up to 25,000rev/min.

Huco-Flex Ni is the popular electrodeposited nickel version, directed primarily at drives for sensitive instruments such as encoders, dynamometers and switches.

Nickel bellows couplings accommodate a high degree of axial, angular or parallel misalignment through the flexure of their convolutions.

These are formed by the electrolytic deposition of nickel to produce a stress-free and uniform, closely controlled wall thickness.

Huco-Flex K is the new high torque range which will initially include six diameters for peak torques between 18 and 200Nm.

Standard bore sizes range from 8 to 42mm, with a number of fastening options.

Yet another addition to the Huco bellows range of couplings is a two-piece plastic, single bellow coupling able to accommodate +/-2 degrees of angular misalignment.

Initially available in two sizes, Huco-Flex L can be fastened to shafts already in place in the same way as a two-piece rigid coupling.

The obvious benefit of this design is that it is quick and easy to assemble providing shaft support and positive engagement as well as angular flexibility.
