Stream mapping reduces Multibeam's lead times

A Huco Dynatork product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Dec 17, 2008

Huco Dynatork has used value stream mapping to increase capacity, simplify flow and cut lead times when making Multibeam couplings.

This has also opened up new opportunities for customers with special design requirements.

Huco Dynatork has made changes to the way it manufactures its range of Multibeam couplings.

Huco Dynatork has made changes to the way it manufactures its range of Multibeam couplings.

Huco Dynatork had already been making its single-, three- and six-beam Multibeam couplings from pilot bored stock to boost productivity and shorten lead times.

Although this did shorten lead times of the most popular sizes and models, there was still room for improvement.

Unusually large orders or those for less popular sizes and specials were still subject to lengthy lead times.

Multibeams were previously produced in a series of individual process cells.

Value stream mapping made Huco Dynatork invest in a single multi-process cell that manufactures every Multibeam from scratch rather than from pre-bored stock.

This has cut production lead times for Huco Dynatork Multibeam by 80 per cent.

Typical lead times for batches of 50 to 100 are now less than five days.
