A Hiawatha Rubber Company product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Jul 9, 2007

Hiawatha Rubber designs and manufactures components for a industries including agriculture, hydraulic and pneumatic, high-pressure cleaning, and medical diagnostic and imaging devices.

Hiawatha Rubber provides close tolerance, application-specific moulded rubber/silicone components and bonding to valves, brackets, assemblies, gears, housings, and mechanical assemblies, requiring special formulations and surface finishes.

Hiawatha Rubber's expertise includes designing and manufacturing components for a industries including agriculture, hydraulic and pneumatic, high-pressure cleaning, and medical diagnostic and imaging devices such as CAT scanning systems, dry laser imagers for MRI systems and defibrillators.

Many of its moulded and bonded components require special surfaces that range from ultra smooth (polished) to extremely coarse (crepe).

Others require lubricious or tacky surfaces.

ISO9001:2000 certified, Hiawatha Rubber engineers, chemists and technicians partner with a medical customer's design group to develop a solution that best meets the required design criteria.

This includes selecting the right rubber compound, then developing the correct moulding and bonding process, and where needed, accurate grinding of roller and device surface dimension and finish for highest level performance.

Hiawatha Rubber's in-house grinding department specialises in achieving custom finishes and special crowning to meet specific feeding and wear-resistant requirements.

Hiawatha Rubber offers material formulation chemistry, CAD design tooling, injection and transfer moulding, CNC grinding and CNC machining.

For medical roller applications, Hiawatha Rubber services include bearing assembly, plastic or metal gearing, drilling and tapping components, precision journal grinding, plastic-to-rubber assembly, metal-to-rubber bonding and segmented roller assembly.

Numerous other design features are available including a full range of silicone material durometers, custom colourisation of components, conductive or insulated silicone materials.
