A CD-ROM based guide to the selection and use of platinum resistance temperature detectors (PRTDs) has been produced by Heraeus Sensor-Nite.

The guide is divided into two sections, the first contains information on the theory and construction of PRTD sensors together with basic data on the Pt 100 standard.

The second contains individual datasheets on all of the companies PRTD sensors and related microheaters.

The guide will be of particular interest to designers who have a need for accurate and stable temperature measurement or temperature compensation sensors.

The PRTDs featured in the guide are small low-cost devices manufactured using the latest thin-film technology.

Standard sensors are supplied with 10mm long connection leads, have a maximum operating temperature of 500C and are suitable for use in most OEM applications.

Also included in the guide are sensors in SMD 1206, SMD 0805, TO92 and SOT 223 packages which are primarily designed for use on printed circuit boards and rated to 130C.
