Lightning monitoring system raises the alarm

A Hydroscape product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Sep 8, 2005

Strike Guard continuously monitors a radius of up to 30km from its location, looking for cloud-to-cloud and cloud-to-ground lightning, and provides lightning contact signalling at user-set thresholds.

Designed especially for critical industrial applications and using military derived technology, Strike Guard continuously monitors a radius of up to 30 kilometres from its location, looking for cloud-to-cloud and cloud-to-ground lightning, and provides lightning contact signalling at user-set thresholds.

Optical signal processing and proprietary optical-coincidence technology prevent false alarms.

Contact data is communicated via a lightning-proof fibre-optic cable to an independent Lightning Data Receiver incorporating system status and alarm mode indicators.

Data can also be comunicated to a PC, where Strike Guard software logs both real time and historic lightning information.

Strike Guard can be used to automatically trigger an unlimited number of personnel safety warning sirens within a 3km radius each with an 800m range, or automatically shut down sensitive power circuits.

Strike Guard continues to monitor a storm's passing and sends an all-clear when safe to resume operations.

Strike Guard features include: alarm triggering in selectable range, 30km detection radius, no false alarms, patented technology, sensor and communications self test, battery-powered sensor for easy installation, durable fibre-optic communication with connectorless technology, lightning data receiver with battery back-up, optional Strike Guard Simulation software for training and testing, personnel safety warning sirens, automatic power shutdown and restart.

Srike Guard's technology addresses the most demanding lightning safety and equipment protection applications with significant improvement over previous lightning warning systems.

Strike Guard is distributed and supported in the UK by Ringwood-based Hydroscape.
