Hyprotech has announced that it is expanding the Axsys Accumulated Knowledge System with the introduction of a new module for managing Risk Based Inspection for the Chemical Process Industries

Hyprotech has announced that it is expanding the Axsys Accumulated Knowledge System with the introduction of a new module for managing Risk Based Inspection (RBI) for the Chemical Process Industries.

Axsys.Integrity is the result of a partnership between AEA Technology Engineering Solutions, a recognized leader in risk assessment and risk-based inspection services, and Hyprotech's software technology for data management.

Axsys.Integrity will enable engineers to maintain an equipment inventory of the plant and associate the parameters that define risk, as well as the consequences of failure for each component.

Axsys.Integrity incorporates the calculation methods used to define these parameters and is consistent with the guidelines in API 581 for quantitative analysis.

Having this information, the plant owner will then be able to determine the inspection requirements and produce actionable inspection plans to maximize equipment utilization and minimize plant risk.

Mr Geoff Eckold, Operations Partner at AEA Technology Engineering Solutions, stated: "RBI is an established technology capable of delivering benefits in plant operations through the intelligent management of risks.

AEA Technology Engineering Solutions have developed a comprehensive methodology which, when combined with the powerful functionality of Hyprotech's Axsys system, represents state-of-the-art integrated equipment data management for the process plant." "Building on the strengths of the Axsys data management platform and working together with Engineering Solutions allows us to deliver significant benefits to the owner operator, and leverages our lifecycle approach," added Dr.Mark Broussard, Hyprotech's Senior Vice President of Technology.

Calculation methods for identifying risk provide comprehensive coverage of types of plant and degradation processes including corrosion, stress fracture, process fouling, mechanical and thermal fatigue.

Calculations for consequence of failure, including environmental hazard, cost of repair and lost production are incorporated into Axsys.Integrity.

Future extensions will include the use of process simulation results from Hysys, Hyprotech's process modeling environment, to automatically populate the pertinent equipment information and allow RBI studies to take place during the plant design phase.

Another benefit will be more accurate predictions of process conditions for the owner operator.

Axsys.Integrity is being used by Engineering Solutions as part of their RBI consulting work today and will be commercially available in the first quarter of 2002.
