Washers promise an end to leaking joints

A Hytorc (Unex) product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Jun 8, 2004

A simple economical washer promises to revolutionise the task of setting a correct bolt load.

Hytorc claims to have achieved the impossible.

For the first time in thousands of years, users can just set the desired bolt load on the tool, get it and keep it on the bolt.

The key to this is a simple economical washer called the LoaDisc.

Placed underneath the regular nut, it stops flanges and casings from leaking.

The LoaDisc washer has an inner threaded segment.

It is bolt thread connected to create a counter-nut effect when the washer is held stationery by the tool that turns the nut.

This stops the bolt from turning so that further nut turning creates straight axial bolt elongation, which pulls up the inner threaded segment accordingly without causing thread damage.

The bearing face friction of the nut becomes known.

The usual side load is eliminated with the tool's coaxial holding and turning forces.

The precision torque applied results in an independently tested and certified calibrated bolt load accuracy of +/-5% on new bolts and +/-10% on used bolts.

The tools used are the latest, award-winning Torque/Tension Hytorc tools.

They are faster than prior generations, have improved ergonomics and permit hands-free, safe operation from a distance, in conjunction with the LoaDisc.

They are available for purchase or rent in over 50 countries Bolting time is reduced by at least 50%.

Backup wrenches and reaction arms are no longer necessary.

Joints become reliable and leak-free.

Bolting is simplified to avoid human error.

Gasket crushing with uneven load is out of the question.

Bolting and production safety is greatly improved.

Productivity is increased.

Hytorc claims a new industrial standard has been set.
