Order to upgrade Romanian power plants
Honeywell Industry Solutions has been awarded over $2 million in orders for automation projects at multiple SC Termoelectrica SA power plants in Romania.
Honeywell Industry Solutions has been awarded over $2 million in orders for automation projects using process control systems, instruments, and engineering services at multiple SC Termoelectrica SA power plants in Romania "We are convinced that the implementation of the Honeywell process management solutions for reengineering the SC Termoelectrica SA power groups and thermal stations will greatly improve their performance by increasing the exploitation efficiency and significantly lowering the operation costs", said Ion Marcu, General Manager of Termoelectrica
"By replacing the existing analogue control systems, the process control system delivers several benefits", said Gheorghe Tucu, Honeywell Industry Solutions Sales and Country Manager.
"This modernisation allows Termoelectrica to implement advanced process control algorithms, improve the reliability and safety of its power plants, reduce maintenance costs by up to 10 percent, and reduce startup costs by around 20%.
In addition, the use of state-of-the-art automation equipment prepares these sites for the implementation of Honeywell's information and advanced control applications, which can lead to further energy and performance improvements".
"Over the last few years Honeywell has developed an excellent business relationship with Termoelectrica", said Jerry Walker, Honeywell Industry Solutions Vice President.
"We are now one of Termoelectrica's preferred suppliers, and in some sites have replaced previous automation vendors.
Reasons for our success include a proven technical solution, competitive prices, and professional support to the client and engineering companies involved in developing the solution".
The automation solution at Iasi, Romania, employs Honeywell's process control system and also includes field instrumentation and control valves.
The solution controls two 50MW gas and oil cogeneration units.
The first phase of the $1.2 million automation project was implemented in the second quarter of 2001 with Honeywell supplying engineering, commissioning, and startup services.
The second phase of the project will be completed during the fourth quarter of 2002.
At Iernut, Romania, Honeywell's process control system is to be installed on a 100MW gas condensing unit along with field instrumentation, control valves, and analysers.
Honeywell will also provide engineering, commissioning, and startup, scheduled for completion during the fourth quarter of 2002.
The value of the automation solution is $800,000.
An additional 100MW unit is planned for the Iernut power plant.
Honeywell Romania will also install process control systems for coalhouse handling, boiler control, high-pressure pipe control, and field instrumentation at three other Termoelectrica power plants in 2002.
These projects, located at Paroseni, Bacau, and Pitesti, include all engineering and project services to improve the efficiency at the power plants.
The combined value of these contracts is $520,000.
"We are convinced that in the upcoming years the collaboration between our companies will continue by extending the Honeywell presence in the SC Termoelectrica SA power groups, through the implementation of advanced process management systems and through the implementation and optimisation of safety surveillance solutions", said Ion Marcu, General Manager of SC Termoelectrica SA.
SC Termoelectrica SA is Romania's leading thermal power company, focusing on the generation of electricity and heating from fossil fuels.
In the year 2001 SC Termoelectrica SA owned 19 subsidiaries and one branch.
In the year 2002 some cogeneration power plants and thermal plants were transferred to the local public administration.
Following these externalities, SC Termoelectrica SA owns 11 power subsidiaries and one power branch, having in operation 17 thermal power plants.
In the new organisational structure, SC Termoelectrica SA continues to be the main power and heat producer from Romania.
