Next generation process knowledge system on time
Honeywell Industry Solutions has released its ground-breaking industrial automation system Experion PKS on schedule.
Process knowledge system goes offshore
Brunei Shell Petroleum has chosen Honeywell's Experion PKS Process Knowledge System for monitoring, control and safety shutdown operations at its Well Jacket-2 platform off the coast of Brunei.
Shin-Etsu is based in Japan and has offices and manufacturing facilities in 14 countries.
The company operates six PVC plants.
The project, which will be completed in October 2003, is the addition of a fourth process or "cracking" furnace to increase production of vinyl chloride monomers, an intermediate of PVC.
Using Experion PKS, Honeywell's next-generation business, process and asset management system, Shin-Etsu will integrate the new furnace with the Rotterdam facility's existing automation and control system, while taking advantage of Foundation Fieldbus smart instrumentation technology.
"We need integration with our installed base and Honeywell's Experion PKS provides that", said Leen van der Reiden, Maintenance Engineer E and I for Shin-Etsu.
"Our goals are increased productivity and reduced maintenance costs.
Experion will help us achieve both objectives".
Leen van der Reiden said Shin-Etsu also favoured Honeywell's dedication to open standards and the tools and knowledge developed through the Abnormal Situation Management Consortium, a Honeywell-led joint research and development group of 10 major companies and universities.
The initial Shin-Etsu order expands on the TotalPlant solution system and includes the hardware and hardware-related services for an Integration Node, C200 with HPM I/O, Foundation Fieldbus, Profibus, Experion PKS server, Experion PKS stations, a Honeywell fail safe controller and field instruments.
Further orders include engineering services needed to develop application software and Asset Manager PKS.
