Image Management Technologies (IMT) has arranged the sale of Vision Components' VC-M40 smart camera with related software and support, to Absolute Vision.

Absolute Vision will purchase the product direct from Vision Components at the manufacturer's actual list price.

Absolute Vision intends to use the VC-M40 as a stand-alone vision system, either as a small two-dimensional (2D) code reader, or for other bespoke applications that will run well on the product.

Nick Hewitson, managing director of IMT, explained: "In the current economic climate for industrial automation and machine vision, cost-effective solutions rather than 'technology for technology's sake' is what our customers are asking for.

The VC-M30 and VC-M40 offer an industrial imaging platform at prices which make many previously uneconomical tasks very cost-effective, even in small quantities".

Peter Greenrod, director of Absolute Vision, explained the reasons for the purchase: "As an independent integrator, we are continually looking for and designing innovative products that fit nicely within our product range.

This is a smart little camera, that is technically advanced, has colour and black and white capability and is a design we like.

We purchased the camera for evaluation purposes largely due to its technical capabilities and the range of potential applications to which it could be adapted.

Size and cost were also important factors in the decision".

The VC-M40 is one of the smallest intelligent cameras yet made worldwide.

A compact, lightweight optical system, it is suitable for industrial applications, and stands up to vibrations, shocks and extreme temperatures, while permitting precise measurements and tests.

With 8Mbyte of DRAM, it has been designed to address a wide variety of gauging, inspection, orientation, colour control, pattern matching and recognition and correlation tasks.

The VC-M40 system comes bundled with normalised grey scale correlation pattern matching software.
