Romania-based UCM Resita has selected IBM product lifecycle management solutions to improve its competitive position on the European market.

Cybernetics, an IT Consulting and Services company and an IBM Business Partner, has announced that Romania-based UCM Resita has selected IBM product lifecycle management (PLM) solutions to improve its competitive position on the European market through a reduction of operational costs and an increase of product quality and innovative services for customers in the hydro, diesel and electric power industries.

For the last year, UCM Resita has been looking for leading edge design solutions to develop high quality, innovative and competitive products to broaden its market share on the European market while remaining profitable.

Cybernetics, an IBM business partner, will help the company use Catia V5, the world's leading 3D product-development application, providing support and services during the implementation phase and for the education of UCM Resita's engineers.

The company will use Catia V5 to design and manufacture hydropower equipment, with the aim of reducing operation costs by 10% and increasing product quality while complying with environmental regulations.

Catia V5 is an IBM PLM solution developed by Dassault Systemes.

With large capital projects like these in the process industries, even a saving of 1 or 2% can mean millions of dollars and make the difference between a profit and a loss.

Operational efficiency and risk reduction is the name of the game.

Although as a first step, the solution will be used to develop new products, mostly for Romanian clients, such as Hidroelectrica, the leading hydropower producer on the Romanian market, UCM Resita will use its PLM advantage and deep industry expertise to expand throughout Europe.

For the past 45 years, UCM Resita has been developing complete hydropower and hydromechanical equipment.

The company designs, manufactures and delivers complete hydroelectric generating units, and components.

The company also conducts research, development and testing on hydraulic turbines, generators, governing systems, valves and provides specialised services such as refurbish and upgrade hydro units in operation.

Catia V5 provides a single integrated environment for the multiple disciplines required by UCM Resita, including mechanical equipment, fluid and electrical systems, as well as testing, analysis, and simulation.

Cybernetics is an IBM PLM Business Partner, selling Catia, Enovia and Smarteam.

"In 2005, our company plans to double its revenue".

"During this year we signed important contracts for hydropower equipment, diesel engines spare parts and electrical machines".

"These contracts, added to those signed last year to be executed starting with this year, reach a total amount of over Eur 46 million".

"IBM PLM solutions will help us cut our costs, increase productivity and accelerate product development while reinforcing quality, innovation and customer satisfaction", said Adrian Chebutiu, President and CEO of UCM Resita.

"IBM PLM solutions can bring concrete benefits to Romanian companies searching for competitiveness in a global European market", said Eugen Mihaila, General Manager of Cybernetics.

"It enables them to design and manufacture international class and innovative products".

"As a result, they can increase customer satisfaction and keep product development costs at a minimum".

"We are excited to help UCM Resita meet those new challenges".
