Sensor uses FPGA technology for speed and accuracy

An IBS Precision Engineering product story

Eddy-current displacement sensor provides high-resolution noncontact measurement of position changes of a conductive target, and can be used with a large variety of probes.

The ECL202 eddy-current displacement sensor - an inductive measurement system with the benefits of high precision, long-term stability and improved linearity - is now available from IBS Precision Engineering.

Developed by US-based Lion Precision - a leader in the design and manufacture of noncontact displacement sensing systems - the electronics of the ECL202 are based on the latest FPGA digital technology to provide fast response, excellent noise immunity, very high stability, analogue signal output of 0-10V and TEDS compliance for use with LabView.

"Lion Precision measurement systems are among the most sophisticated and accurate on the market today", comments IBS Precision Engineering's Sales Manager Hans Ott.

"As the company's main distributor for Europe, we are well-positioned to provide customers in the UK with the very best in measurement and positioning solutions".

The ECL202, which provides high resolution (0.006-0.1% full-scale at 10kHz), noncontact measurement of position changes of a conductive target, can be used with a large variety of probes.

The user-selectable bandwidth enables measurement up to 15kHz, and the sensor is easy to synchronise, enabling the problem of cross talk when using multiple systems to be quickly addressed.

Additional performance characteristics include a linear analogue voltage proportional to changes in the target position and a digital (switched) output with a user programmed switching threshold.

The controls of the ECL202 feature an LED range indicator, which monitors and displays the probe's position.

The zero or offset pushbutton adjusts the DC level of the output voltage to the centre of the calibrated range.
