Hose takes the heat of huge diesel engines
Icore International's tape-wrapped convoluted PTFE hose has been chosen by Cummins Engine Company to play a vital role in the new Cummins QSK78 engine.
"The key features which set Icore hose apart from other products are its extreme flexibility and its very light weight", said Barry Miller, of Brown and Miller Racing Solutions.
"Both of these features are crucial in motor racing applications, where space is always at a premium, and where a few ounces of extra weight can make a significant difference to the performance of a car".
Other benefits offered by Icore PTFE hose products include a wide operating temperature range - typically -50 to +200C - which make it ideal for use in engine compartments, and excellent resistance to the effects of fuel, oil and brake fluid.
The hose is nonflammable, and presents a minimal smoke hazard when exposed to extreme heat or fire.
For Brown and Miller Racing Solutions, Icore produces hose in a wide variety of types.
All have a convoluted PTFE core, which is reinforced with glass fibre to provide additional strength and crush resistance.
Depending on the application, the hose may then be supplied with an outer braid of stainless steel, polyester or Nomex.
Brown and Miller takes the bulk hose supplied by Icore, and uses it to produce hose assemblies, some of which are standard catalogue items.
Much of the hose is, however, used in the manufacture of custom assemblies which Brown and Miller designs to precisely meet the demanding specifications of the top racing teams.
In developing the hose products for motor racing applications, which are used by Brown and Miller, Icore drew on its wide experience of designing and manufacturing high-performance hose for the most challenging applications.
These include applications in the aerospace, mass transit, military and industrial sectors, for which Icore offers a comprehensive range of standard and customised PTFE hose products.
