Circular connectors are ATEX approved

An Icore International product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Nov 1, 2004

Circular multipole connectors in the CB, SPDT and BPDT ranges are an ideal choice where robust, lightweight power and signal connectors are required for use in hazardous areas.

Approved for ATEX Group II Category 3 Zone 2 applications, circular multipole connectors in the popular and versatile CB, SPDT and BPDT ranges from interconnect expert Icore International, are an ideal choice where robust, lightweight power and signal connectors are required for use in hazardous areas.

Suitable for use with both multicore cables and open-wire assemblies, the connectors can be supplied with standard contacts rated at up to 100A at 750V.

Short contacts rated at 2A, 30V can also be fitted for control circuit interruption, and when correctly used, they allow the connectors to be disconnected safely, when there is a risk of explosive gases being present.

Both standard and short contacts feature crimp or solder connections, and are silver-plated to enhance conductivity and corrosion-resistance.

The outer body shells of the connectors are manufactured from a fortified polymer material, which is nonconductive, corrosion-resistant, and rot-proof.

ATEX-approved connectors from Icore International are available with size 18, 22, 28 and 36 shells.

All types have an IP68 protection rating, and an operating temperature range of up to 85C, making them suitable for use in even the most demanding environments.

To further enhance their versatility, all of the connectors in the range can be configured for panel mounting, or for use as in-line couplers.

Fast and easy mating is ensured by the use of a coarse multi-start acme thread on the coupling unit.

Keyway facilities are also provided to protect against the accidental cross-connection of circuits using similar connectors, and all types can be fitted with a captive screw-on cap to provide protection while they are in the unmated condition.
