Contact bands enhance high current
connectors
Contact bands allow the design of bespoke and application specific connectors without the excessive capital investments associated with most new product designs.
Icore International's range of contact bands, which simplify the construction and enhance the performance of high current connectors, has been extended by the introduction of new Band 12L products Based on the company's proven Band 12 design, the new products have a modified retaining zone which means that they can easily be held in place with a simple spring ring thus offering time and cost saving installation advantages

Contact bands allow the design of bespoke and application specific connectors without the excessive capital investments associated with most new product designs.
They are fitted between two mating metal surfaces, such as a "pin and socket" arrangement, where their sprung construction, high conductivity, and large number of individual contact points ensure a repeatable and quantifiable consistently low contact resistance.
This reduces heat generation, allowing high current ratings to be achieved with considerably smaller peripheral components.
Band 12L products are manufactured from high grade beryllium-copper alloy.
After forming, they are hardened and then silver plated to ensure that they combine mechanical strength with excellent electrical performance.
All contact band products from Icore International feature a unique geometry which optimises both current carrying capacity and automatic compensation for component tolerances.
The current bridges used in the products are canted to give low wear and enhanced self-cleaning properties.
Icore contact band products are suitable for a wide range of industrial applications, such as use in the connector systems of withdrawable switchgear, as well as in demanding military applications.
The new Band 12L products can be supplied on coils for users to cut to length, or preformed ready for use with pin-and-socket assemblies.
Alternatively, Icore offers an extensive range of power connectors which incorporate contact bands, and the company is also willing to develop and produce customised designs.
