French design consultant takes to the Surf

French automotive vehicle design consultant Idestyle Technologies has signed a contract for the provision and implementation of the latest version of ICEM Surf.
French automotive vehicle design consultant Idestyle Technologies has signed a contract for the provision and implementation of the latest version of ICEM Surf.
Under the terms of the contract, ICEM is supplying and implementing Surf 4.3, including facilities for the global modification, creation and diagnosis of surfaces, whether these were originally generated in ICEM Surf or imported from another vendor's CAD system.
It also includes integrated facilities for the analysis of surface models in order to achieve the industry-standard Class A quality surfaces, as well as integrated real-time surface model visualisation capabilities for improving the design development and validation process.
In addition, an industry-standard Iges interface will allow the transfer of model data between ICEM Surf and Idestyle's existing 3D and solid-based CAD/CAM systems from other vendors.
"We made the decision to implement ICEM Surf because many of our OEM customers in the automotive industry, as well as those companies' suppliers, already use ICEM Surf extensively", said Patrick Weil, Development Director, Idestyle Technologies.
"So having ICEM Surf ourselves will enable us to communicate more effectively with our customers".
"In addition to that though", he added, "ICEM Surf provides highly advanced facilities for working with 'raw' 3D scan data, for visualising surface models in real time as they are developed and for analysing them in order to create the highest quality Class A surface models.
