Scania has purchased a number of licences of ICEM Surf 4.5 software for implementation at its worldwide headquarters in Sweden.

Scania, one of the world's leading manufacturers of trucks and buses for heavy transport applications, has purchased a number of licences of ICEM Surf 4.5 software for implementation at its worldwide headquarters in Sweden.

The software is being deployed in Scania's styling and vehicle ergonomics department in Sodertalje, Sweden where it will be used in the design development of truck cab exteriors and interiors to enhance the overall design and engineering development workflow and help improve final quality.

"The dynamic 3D modelling and real-time design visualisation capabilities of ICEM Surf, along with its extensive surface model analysis and validation facilities and direct translation interface to our Catia engineering CAD/CAM system will bring major improvements to the process of taking agreed styling sketches through to the final Class A surface data required for manufacturing", said Peter Mikaelsson, Manager, Models and Visualisation, Styling and Vehicle Ergonomics, Scania.

"However, while ICEM Surf provides us with all the tools we need currently, we are also aware of the additional benefits, such as improved data integrity and workflow, that the new ICEM Shape Design software suite might bring us through its seamless integration with Catia V5", he added.

"We will be looking more closely at this new software in the future".

"As competition between truck and bus manufacturers increases, the individual manufacturers are looking for tools that will help them stay ahead in terms of time to market and vehicle quality", said Kate Mills, Global Marketing Director, ICEM.

"We are therefore delighted that Scania has selected ICEM software to help them in this process".
