Workshops examine practical process control
A 2-day workshop on "Practical process control for engineers and technicians" will be held early next year in London, Birmingham, Manchester, Liverpool, Dublin and Cork.
This unique workshop equips delegates with the tools to analyse, specify and debug datacommunications and networking systems in the instrumentation and control environment, with much of the material presented being derived from many years of experience gained by the workshop instructor.
In modern manufacturing and process industries, the challenge for engineers and technicians is to make more effective use of modern control systems and "smart" instruments by linking them together with datacommunication systems that are correctly designed and implemented to fully utilise the available technology.
This "Practical datacommunications and networking" workshop is designed to benefit instrumentation engineers, scientists and technicians who are involved in specifying, commissioning and debugging datacommunications and networking systems for instrumentation and control in the industrial environment, and who have little previous experience in datacommunications.

Workshop unites wireless and Ethernet
IDC Technologies is presenting a workshop on wireless Ethernet and TCP/IP networking in cities around the UK and Ireland during February and March 2005.
This workshop has been structured to cover the main concepts of datacommunications, to clarify their meanings and to describe their applications in a modern process and control system.
When delegates leave this workshop they will: be able to competently configure their own networks; know how to effectively and systematically troubleshoot fieldbus and DeviceNet systems; and understand the essential rules in designing and installing these complex networks.
Course instructor John Lawrence has certainly done the hard yards over the past 15 years and has distinguished himself with excellent reviews from his courses in the communications and IT areas.
He has 20 years of experience working as a project and departmental manager for a large multinational oil company focusing on designing and then managing the overall architecture and infrastructure of the telecommunications, datacommunications and IT systems.
And then latterly during the past 5 years he has worked extensively for a number of multinational industrial and commercial clients managing a variety of corporate relocations and restructuring of the IT and communications infrastructure.
When Lawrence is not consulting and lecturing, he enjoys reading and writing on state of the art networking topics and how to handle the interface to the overall company IT infrastructure.
