Two-day workshop for project managers and engineers involved with hazardous processes focuses on the management, planning and execution of automatic safety systems in accordance with IEC 61511.

Practical Safety Instrumentation and Emergency Shutdown Systems for Process Industries is a two-day workshop in London on the 13th and 14th March, in Manchester on the 16th and 17th March and in Glasgow on the 20th and 21st March.

This workshop, for project managers and engineers involved with hazardous processes, focuses on the management, planning and execution of automatic safety systems in accordance with IEC 61511 - the widely accepted international standard for functional safety in the process industries.

IEC 61511 has been recognised by safety authorities in Europe, the USA and Australia as representing the best practices available for the design and management of automatic safety systems.

This standard combines well-established safety design principles with the techniques required when using programmable devices such as transmitters and PLCs in safety related applications.

Safety regulators need to be assured of the abilities of a company to manage its process safety activities properly.

In particular, safety shutdown systems are not considered to be acceptable unless they have suitable life cycle management systems supported by competent staff.

This training workshop provides the essential grounding in IEC 61511 and its safety management principles needed to develop conformity and competency in safety systems.

The first part of the workshop introduces delegates to the tasks involved in managing and implementing safety control systems.

The second section covers the specification and delivery of safety control systems.

Colin Easton, an enthusiastic and experienced instructor, will present the workshop.

He has 23 years experience having worked on projects in industries including pharmaceutical, fine chemical, petrochemical, oil and gas production plants and power stations.

He is consulted by major organisations on the implementation of safety on process plants and is a member of the Institute of Measurement and Control safety panel.

His work experience spans the full safety life cycle and throughout his career he has been involved with hazard studies and the implementation of safety instrumented systems.
