The IC-R3 is a stylish handheld receiver incorporating a 2-inch colour screen.

The merging of two technologies into the IC-R3 allows a user to run a combination of audio and visual broadcasts.

Whether watching terrestrial television, viewing video images from wireless cameras or listening to different broadcast bands the Icom IC-R3 is a product guaranteed to open a whole New World of entertainment and usefulness to you.

The IC-R3 is an audio-visual receiver.

A receivers is a product that can be manipulated to scan and listen to broadcast bands such as radio stations like the BBC or more interesting frequencies such as aircraft, air traffic control and marine bands etc.

Dependent on the power of those transmitters and the sensitivity of your receiver you can even listen to radio signals from the other side of the world.

However by coupling a powerful handheld receiver with an integrated colour screen the Icom IC-R3 now offers an abundance of features that offer the user an incredible amount of new operational possibilities.

Traditionally, receivers have been popular with Amateur Radio enthusiasts.

Icom have always produced what is regarded as the best receiving equipment for both commercial and consumer use.

The IC-R3 is the natural successor to what is a top product range.

For the Amateur Radio enthusiast, the IC-R3 offers a wealth of features including a high performance receiver, simple operation, frequency coverage from 0.495 to 2450 MHz, with AM, FM, WFM modes built-in and an abundance of operating features which are guaranteed to hold their interest.

For those customers who want to use the receiver for long periods a powerful Lithium Ion battery comes as standard allowing up to 27 hours operation time.

However the IC-R3 is not only suitable for Amateur Radio enthusiasts.

There are a wide range of social, commercial and leisure users that can reap benefits from the IC-R3: 1.

Calling all sports fans! With the IC-R3, a new level of spectating can be achieved.

If you are attending a motor sport event, for example, you may be able to keep up to date in the following ways: * By watching terrestrial television coverage of the race, * By watching one of the dedicated cameras scattered around the circuit, * Listen to radio coverage that the circuit provides, * Tune in to pit lane communication and all the other support services that use radio communications.

2.

The essential tool for security schemes! You can receive pictures on the IC-R3 wherever there is a wireless camera.

Installers of wireless CCTV cameras may be able to use the IC-R3 to ensure that their equipment has been correctly placed.

Once installed, security operatives or police officers on the beat can monitor these cameras as well as listen to radio users in a scheme.

3.

An ideal tool for Security Surveillance! Security officers on patrol may be able to monitor a whole site as well as other operatives patrolling a large facility (where there are cameras).

The IC-R3 can be used to monitor areas where security is an issue, indoors or outdoors.

4.

Stretch your imagination! The capability of the IC-R3 is only limited by your imagination.

Why not use the IC-R3 in conjunction with a camera as a visual baby monitor keeping an eye on sleeping children while you are in another room or out in the garden.

Or quite simply use the IC-R3 to watch your favourite terrestrial program anytime and anywhere.

What instantly strikes you about the IC-R3 is that it has two LCD displays.

The large 2-inch TFT colour LCD display screen has a versatile dual screen format allowing you to switch from TV monitor to control functions at the press of a button.

It really is that simple! The colour LCD screen can display up to 5 different screen layouts.

The formats available to the operator include a simple screen, multifunction screen, band scope screen, direction finding screen and TV screen.

And if that was not enough the background colour of the LCD screen can be adjusted with a choice of nine different colours to suit personal taste.

The LCD screen can be switched off to extend battery life.

The smaller LCD screen incorporated into the design presents operating information such as semi-duplex operation, tone squelch operation and priority watch indicator.

Battery voltage is also displayed when the colour LCD is not in use.

The IC-R3 is very simple to operate and benefits from an uncluttered display.

The receiver is operated by a minimum of buttons and a joystick paddle.

This allows quick and easy changing of operating bands, AF volume, set mode contents etc.

A band scope function allows you to visually check band activity near to your current operating frequency.

The 'sweep' range can be selected from +/-5 kHz to +/- 500 kHz.

In addition, when a directional antenna is used, this function helps in searching for signal origin.

The IC-R3 has 400 memory channels to store your most frequently used channels.

There are also 50 scan edge memories for programming frequency ranges.

The alphanumeric help identify then memory channels for easy memory management.

There are an additional 10 video memories for quick retrieval of your favourite video sources.

Memory or frequency scanning is fast - up to 30 channels per second! Several scan types are available for quick and simple searching.

A 'pocket beep' function tells you when a specified station signal is received.

In addition, a tone scan function finds which CTCSS tone is being used on the received signal which is particularly useful as many commercial and Amateur radio repeaters now use CTCSS.

All 50 standard CTCSS tone frequencies are programmed into the IC-R3 for the tone scan operation.

The IC-R3 is equipped with an automatic squelch, which automatically adjusts squelch threshold according to the noise level.

This is very convenient when receiving a weak signal.

In strong signal situations often experienced on the HF bands, a 4-step attenuator is built in.

The receiver has display backlighting for night-time operation.

The backlight automatically goes off after 5 seconds but can be turned on continuously or turned off entirely if preferred.

With the IC-R3 you have a choice of power supply.

You can either choose 3 R6 (AA) size alkaline batteries or use the standard Li-Ion battery pack (which offers up to 27 hours of continual operation/ twice as long as other types of battery.) An external DC power jack allows charging of the battery using a wall charger or by using an optional cigarette lighter cable.

The IC-R3 comes complete with a telescopic antenna, belt clip, wall charger, Li-Ion battery pack and spacer for optional operation on three AA alkaline batteries and will cost ?382.97 (ex.

VAT) or ?449.99 (inc.

VAT).

Options include a desktop rapid charger, spare Li-Ion battery packs, a leather protective carrying case, a cigarette lighter adapter, and the cloning software and cable.

Ian Lockyer, Marketing Executive at Icom (UK) Ltd said, "The IC-R3 is a remarkable product.

It looks stylish, is incredibly easy to use and has an abundance of features and potential uses that I'm sure will make it one of Icom's most popular products ever.
