2 or 4 line text message displays which draw power from the PLC communications port and require no external power supply have been introduced to complement a recently-launched range of PLCs

IDEC Electronics has announced the introduction of text message displays that complement the new MicroSmart and ONC PLCs.

Available with a 2 or 4 line LCD, these simple interfaces are programmed with the new WindMSG software.

They draw power from the PLC communications port, so no external power supply is required.

The HG1X-252 has a 16 character 2 line backlit LCD with six user definable function keys and 2 user definable LED's which can be mapped to a PLC register.

The HG1X-452 has a 20 character 4 line backlit LCD with eight user definable function keys and a numeric keypad.

Each function key has a user definable LED.

Both displays have a separate serial port for printing screens and alarms.

Functions such as bit operations, register operations, screen and alarm operations can be assigned.

Data can be entered into PLC registers and data can be displayed in simple text formats or in numeric formats such as integer, unsigned integer, long integer of floating point.

Data can also be displayed in a bar graph format.

Define as many screens as the unit memory (24k) permits and up to 256 alarms.

Alarm status can be stored for later retrieval.

Three separate actions can be defined for each key, when a key is pressed, while a key is pressed and when a key is released.

An action can be assigned to a combination of keys, multiple actions can be assigned to a single keystroke.

All function keys can be password protected.

With no need to buy a separate power supply these simple message text displays offer a low cost means of extracting and entering information into your IDEC PLC.
