Jackson takes charge of professional
operations

The IEE has appointed Paul Jackson to the Executive of the IEE as Director of Professional Operations.

The IEE has appointed Paul Jackson to the Executive of the IEE as Director of Professional Operations effective 1st January 2005 IEE Professional Operations works to raise the quality of engineering professionalism and the profile of the profession as a whole

It is there to serve the global engineering community by providing professional development opportunities for engineers and enabling them to develop the knowledge and skills they need to do their jobs through events, publications, training and support.

Further, the department is responsible for ensuring that the voice of the engineering profession is heard within its areas of expertise and provides professional advice to Parliament, Government and other agencies.

"Our team has a vital role to play in realising the IEE's vision of the engineering community", says Jackson.

"We need to develop a vibrant Institution which improves on the services we already offer to members and encourages new members to join".

"In the last year, we reached over 200,000 individuals through our range of professional services".

"We must continue build on this engagement with the engineering community, as well as with government, academia and the public at large to help ensure maximum benefit for the profession and the economy".

A chartered engineer, Jackson joined the IEE in 2002 with responsibility for reshaping the IEE's extensive portfolio of member magazines, websites and conferences.

As Director of Publishing and Professional Networks, Jackson oversaw the launch of the IEE's flagship publication the IEE Review in January 2003 and the launch of the highly successful www.iee.tv, an extensive network of online lectures for professional development.

Jackson also led in the development of a new portfolio of seven vertical magazines, which helped to increase reader appreciation, audience size and online participation.

Jackson is a graduate in electronic and electrical engineering from King's College London and has received recognition from the IEE for outstanding work in his field.

In 1988 he was awarded the IEE's Blumlein-Brown Willans Prize for pioneering work on ground probing radar for humanitarian mine clearance.
