Gershon and Er made Honorary Fellows
Sir Peter Gershon and Professor Meng Hwa Er have been elected Honorary Fellows of the IEE.
Sir Peter Gershon, nonexecutive Chairman of Premier Farnell and Professor Meng Hwa Er, Deputy President of Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, have been elected into Honorary Fellowship of the IEE, Europe's largest professional engineering and technology body The award recognises Sir Peter's outstanding work in telecommunications, IT and public sector efficiency including his time as the first chief executive of the Office of Government Commerce (OGC), MD of Marconi Electronic Systems and COO of BAE Systems

Sir Peter's remarkable 30 year career spans the computer, telecommunications and defence industries.
His public sector work includes his leadership of a major review of UK public sector efficiency between August 2003 and July 2004.
Says Professor John O'Reilly, IEE President: "Sir Peter addressed the problem of wasted government spending across all areas, but taking a particular interest in failed IT projects, and left the OGC having put into place important and far-reaching new policies".
Professor Er has published more than 200 technical papers in international journals and conference proceedings.
One of his key achievements is putting the first Singapore-designed communications payload in space.
"As deputy president at Nanyang Technological University, Professor Er has helped strengthen its research expertise in a number of leading edge technology areas, further developed state-of-the art research facilities and forged strategic alliances and collaborations with leading international partners", says Professor O'Reilly.
