Engineering awards make final call for entries

The final deadline for entries in the Institution of Engineering and Technology's Innovation in Engineering Awards is July 13th.

The Institution of Engineering and Technology has today made the final call for entries for its annual Innovation in Engineering Awards.

The awards promote and reward innovation in industry and have established themselves as an important part of the business calendar.

The final deadline for entries in the 15 categories is July 13th.

The IET Innovation in Engineering Awards is the first multi-sector awards dedicated to recognising outstanding innovation in engineering.

The awards represent a opportunity for industry innovators to be recognised and provide a showcase for the brightest ideas, highlighting the importance of innovation by celebrating its application across a range of engineering disciplines.

Entries will be judged by a panel of recognised industry leaders and experts who are looking for an innovative engineering project, product or process for commercial use that demonstrates genuine novelty and represents a significant technological advance for the industry or technology sector.

Paul Jackson, the IET's Director of Professional Operations said: "Innovation is the foundation to success and these awards bring together industry leaders and forward thinking companies to celebrate, encourage and promote outstanding innovation accomplishments".

Last year's winners included improved pedestrian safety features on the new Jaguar XK; a technique of using seawater to cultivate crops in hot, arid coastal areas; an early-warning system for nurses and doctors in intensive care units; and a project using microwaves to detect breast cancer.

An awards ceremony will be held at London's Marriott Hotel, Grosvenor Square, on the evening on November 13th.
