Engineers discuss climate change

An Institution of Engineering and Technology product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Jul 29, 2008

A seminar in September will allow the power industry to show how it is responding to the challenges of climate change and the technological and commercial opportunities that it presents.

Key figures from the power sector will share the latest technology developments affecting climate change at an event organised by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) this September.

Engineering a Safer Global Climate: the Power Sector's Response takes place on 8th September at the IET in Savoy Place, London and is a must for decision makers in the sector.

The seminar will provide a forum for the power industry to show how it is responding to the challenges of climate change and the technological and commercial opportunities that it presents.

Speakers include Dr Sue Ion, Vice President of the Royal Academy of Engineering and Ian Burdon, Head of Sustainable Energy Developments at PB Power.

Dr Ion will set the UK's position into a global context in describing issues associated with carbon reduction targets, reducing supplies of fossil fuels and opportunities for UK companies associated with the increasing globalisation of the supply chain in the nuclear sector.

Ian Burdon will address the costs of renewable energy.

His presentation will look at the detailed analysis undertaken by PB Power for its Powering the Nation report, which was a key reference in the government's Energy Review.

The report presents a clear measure of the likely costs associated with generating electricity from available technologies including coal, gas, nuclear, wind and renewables.
