IEI introduces Sailor-12A and Sailor-12ASR

An IEI Technology Corp product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Mar 19, 2009

IEI Technology, an industrial PC provider, has released the full IP67-waterproof Sailor-12A panel PC and the sunlight-readable Sailor-12ASR.

The Sailor-12A has a rugged waterproof aluminium housing and an LCD touch panel for meeting the demands of all-day field use in mission-critical applications in marine, avionics, military, mining, engineering and industrial settings.

The fully sealed aluminium chassis and LCD touch panel of the Sailor-12A are designed for high reliability, shock and vibration tolerance for use under an extreme range of temperatures and in harsh environments.

The Sailor-12A features a fanless, low-voltage, 1.6MHz Intel Atom processor with up to 2.0GB of 533MHz DDR2 memory.

A rugged die-cast aluminium enclosure helps to dissipate heat, thereby reducing overheating and eliminating the need for a fan.

The high-speed 802.11b/g/n wi-fi module and internal antenna are claimed to provide broadband-speed browsing and uninterrupted wireless connectivity.

A 2.5in (6.4cm) SATA HDD bay and Compact Flash II slot offer storage options.

IEI provides OS options, including Windows CE 6.0, Windows XP Embedded and Linux.

The company claims that it adheres to UL Test Data Program (TDP), IP67 and NEMA6 standard testing procedures.

IP67/NEMA6 compliance ensures full waterproof protection, including the aluminium housing, the touch panel, the connectors and the optional cables.

The Sailor-12A uses economical self-locking, threaded M12 connectors for LAN, RS-232, RS-232/422/385, control area network (CAN) bus and audio, USB and 9-28VDC power adaptor connections.

It is equipped with an automotive-applied CAN bus interface.

The CAN is a serial bus system originally developed by Bosch for use in automobiles; it is now increasingly being used for control in industrial and automotive applications.

The standard Sailor-12A includes a 12.1in TFT LCD touch panel with 400cd/m2 of brightness.

A built-in ambient light sensor automatically detects the amount of light and adjusts the brightness of the screen to save system power and reduce user eye strain.

The Sailor-12ASR adds anti-reflection technology and improved luminance through edge lighting to achieve high brightness (up to 1,000cd/m2) and higher contrast (700:1), ensuring good visibility in bright daylight or in marine conditions.
