A new guide from the IEC on conformity assessment (CA) explains why it is important for participants in the Affiliate Country Programme and how they stand to benefit from using the IEC's CA systems.

The 51-page document gives a brief overview of conformity assessment, along with the three IEC systems (IECEE, IECEx and IECQ) and then goes into greater detail about the specific benefits that developing economies can derive from using conformity assessment.

The Conformity Assessment Board secretary, Gabriel Barta, says the new guide was prepared with a view to allowing the countries in the programme to make the best use of the IEC's services.

Countries with developing economies can derive particular benefits from using conformity assessment to guarantee the safety of imported equipment, even without the financial and technical resources needed to become full members of the IEC schemes.

'Guidelines to Conformity Assessment for developing countries participating in the IEC Affiliate Country Programme' is available for Affiliate Country Programme participants only, free of charge from the IEC website (password required).
