Pressure sensor keeps watch over pump systems

An IFM Electronic product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Nov 23, 2007

IFM Electronic now offers a pressure sensor with diagnostic functions for pumps.

In addition to pressure measurement, the Efector PIM provides diagnostics for pumps and for the system "around the pump".

To do so, it permanently evaluates the dynamic pressure fluctuations in the system and compares them to the reference values stored by teaching.

Damage, caused for example by cavitation or trapped air, is detected at an early stage.

So, the sensor can be perfectly integrated in condition-based maintenance concepts.

The pump systems become more reliable and uptime increases.

Expensive system damage or even possible environmental stress, sometimes associated with extreme consequential costs, is prevented by the Efector PIM.

A trend indication in the display visualises the pump condition.

An alarm is triggered via the switching output when a critical operating status is reached.

The sensor at the same time serves for pressure monitoring.

The user can define a second output as switching output or analogue output.

So, the sensor can be directly used for pump control.

Thanks to the hygienic design and its EHEDG and FDA approval the sensor can also be used in hygienic applications.
