IFM releases full-metal inductive sensors

An IFM Electronic product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Mar 3, 2009

IFM Electronic has launched three stainless steel inductive sensors.

Part of the successful IFM C-series, they are designed specifically with metalworking and machining applications in mind.

The full-metal sensors of the C series have a reinforced sensing face, which withstands much greater mechanical stress than a sensor with a plastic face.

The full-metal sensors of the C series have a reinforced sensing face, which withstands much greater mechanical stress than a sensor with a plastic face.

These sensors and their connectors are designed to work in an oily, coolant-swamped environment.

The one-piece housing, the threaded body and the sensing face are made of stainless steel.

The housing material and sealing ensure optimum protection against penetration by oils or coolants.

C-series full-metal sensors have a reinforced sensing face, which withstands much greater mechanical stress than a sensor with a plastic face.

This has been proven in severe vibration, shock, impact and coolant immersion tests.

They are available directly from IFM in the standard M12, M18 and M30 designs and rated for an operating temperature of -25 to 70C.

The seal conforms to an IP devised by IFM, as no standard existed previously - 'IP68 coolant'.

The standard EN 60529 refers only to water, so IFM additionally tests the sensors in commercial coolants - after testing to ensure survival after extended immersion in coolant, this is stated on the datasheet.

The oil-resistant connector series, Ecolink EVC, and the C-series full-metal sensors form an optimised sensor and connector combination for the machine tool industry.

In addition to the C-series, IFM also supplies full-metal sensors specially adapted to welding applications (R-series) and hygienic and wet areas (T-series).
