IFM unveils Wetline M18 sensors

An IFM Electronic product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Jul 29, 2009

IFM Electronic has introduced its next-generation Wetline M18 sensors.

Optimised for harsh applications in wet areas, the original Wetline products were claimed to be the first to withstand testing to IP69K.

Wetline M18 sensors are suited for applications in the food industry, such as in cheese plants, breweries or in the meat industry.

Each M18 sensor features a 316L stainless-steel housing, a PMMA lens and an integrated PVC cable, which has a length of 6m in order to keep the device clear of anything wet.

Sensing versions available range from 20m through-beam sets to 4m retro-reflective sets to diffuse devices with several options.

There are options because the sensing range is fixed.

When all ingress points are well sealed, the setting, whether it is pushbutton or potentiometer, is a potential weakpoint, so IFM engineers decided to omit this altogether.

As a result, there are three different fixed-range background-suppressed sensors with 100mm, 200mm and 300mm sensing distances.

Each Wetline device has a fixed function and light or dark switching variants are provided.

All operate on 10VDC to 36VDC, switching 200mA PNP.
