Temperature switches have faster response time

An IFM Electronic product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Oct 7, 2009

IFM Electronic has released the latest versions of its TAD series temperature switches with double the speed of response.

The reaction time of the fast TAD units is 3s (T05) or 6s (T09) compared with 6s and 13s of earlier models.

Regular calibration is no longer necessary with IFM\'s faster TAD series temperature sensors, which come in two probe lengths: 33mm and 87.5mm

Customers wishing to make use of the diagnostic output, for drift and fault monitoring, and switching outputs can connect the new device the same way as the old - as a PNP/NPN switching unit with one binary and one analogue output.

However, if the design of the control system only allows for two wires, this will also work with the same unit.

Regular calibration is no longer necessary with IFM's faster TAD series temperature sensors, which comes in two probe lengths: 33mm and 87.5mm.

The use of two different sensor elements that monitor each other in the process ensures that a developing sensor drift is immediately detected and reliably diagnosed.

Cyclical calibration, which in the end provides no absolute security since the sensors used are only checked selectively, is thus not necessary.

If one element fails, the process continues with the second measuring element (back-up function).

Possible error states are directly transmitted to the higher-level controller via the diagnostic output of the sensor.

A failure warning and switch-off threshold can be defined using the software.

Providing a standardised 4-20mA analogue signal enables processing in any common controller.

The sensor covers a temperature range of -10 to 150C and is resistant to extremes of -25 to 170C for a short time.

The evaluation accuracy is 0.2K in the range of -10 to 100C and 0.3K for 100 to 150C.

The faster switching means the units are more suited to installation in thermowells, also available as accessories from IFM Electronic.

The integrated adapter thread enables hygienic connection to all common process adapters.

The shape of the probe and the high-temperature range allow cleaning (CIP) and sterilisation when mounted (SIP).

The completely closed and welded high-grade stainless-steel housing offers a protection rating of IP69 K.

The design reduces the build up of dirt and can be cleaned on all sides.
