Version 5.1 of INtools released
The Process and Building Solutions division of Intergraph Corporation today announced the 5.1 version of INtools instrumentation engineering software.
The modules, commercial off-the-shelf software (COTS), provide sophisticated configuration capabilities that eliminate the need for complex customisation, offer expanded functionality and promote cross-discipline use of data.
Notia helps process plant owners and engineering, construction and procurement (EPC) firms maximise the value of the plant information asset and achieve business goals of compressing schedules, improving quality and reducing project and operational costs.
New Modules Expand Functionality, Increase Engineering Quality Notia 3.0 offers a number of significant new modules which include Structure, Change, Numbering, 2D Navigation, Comparator and Equipment.
The new modules increase the value of plant data and bring the total number of available modules to ten.
The phase 1 Structure module supports re-use of design data and standard designs by managing and re-using defined plant structures to implement time- and cost-saving best practices.

Approved assemblies, units or even whole areas of a plant can be cloned for re-use in other projects.
All associated information, including documentation, relationships and other pertinent data, is reusable.
A mechanism to manage and control design changes, the phase 1 Change module links design change requests to related objects, records and reports the status of each change request and affected items.

The Change module helps reduce the cost of design changes while improving quality.
Using the full power of the underlying ISO-compliant data classifications, the Change module provides engineers with a cross-discipline view of all affected objects - tags, assets, documents and so on, affected by any change either planned or actual.
The module also provides automatic notification of changes.
Embedded work lists securely route required information to responsible engineers as well as notify personnel of changes through standard e-mail systems.
The Numbering module provides an automated numbering system that manages project numbering for tags, equipment and documents.
These controls enforce the project numbering standards to ensure data quality and consistency of design as well as assist in project tracking and accounting functions.
The 2D Navigation module provides a graphical means of navigating through the plant structure using common documents such as P and IDs or process flow diagrams, allowing engineers to locate and display specific plant information.
Equipment, tag, pipeline and other references are automatically linked from the document, providing validated access to any information associated with objects in the data warehouse.
Building on the underlying POSC/Caesar data model, the Comparator module enables users to compare attribute information among any objects within the system.
Typical uses include comparing revisions of piping and instrumentation diagrams (P and IDs) to indicate changes, such as an additional pump.
Unlike conventional document management systems, this capability shows the true state of the changed document from an engineer's perspective.
A means to standardise on defined or recommended equipment, the Equipment module promotes consistency of design and reduces the volume of supplier documentation.
It also cuts the number of unnecessary variants, thus reducing spares inventories.
Notia Posts Three-year Track Record at Statoil: Statoil, the Norwegian national oil and gas company, is the first and leading user of the Notia plant information management solution.
Notia is the core of Statoil's plant information management system for the $4.4 billion (U.
S.) Asgard offshore development project, which includes the world's largest floating gas production platform.
Bj?rn Henrik Magnus, PIM manager for Asgard, said the Notia-based PIM "has become our integrated information solution for all plant information and will replace our existing portfolio of systems for maintaining plant information." According to Magnus, if PIM is used from the inception of a new plant, potential savings of 30 to 40 percent on total installed costs and 10 to 20 percent on plant operating costs are achievable.
The Notia plant information management system is soon expected to have more than 3,000 users, including Statoil personnel, equipment suppliers and subcontractors.
Statoil brought Notia online for the Asgard project in August 1997.
Other major customers using Notia include Elf Exploration UK PLC, the Syncrude Canada Ltd.
UE-1 Project and major EPCs in both Europe and the Americas.
