The IHS Fasteners e-catalogue is billed as the first engineering-oriented parts research tool for industry standard and military fasteners The IHS Fasteners e-catalogue leverages multiple time-saving features and enhancements throughout the application to drive higher levels of productivity, efficiency, and hard cost savings for customers in the aerospace, defence and automotive industries
The IHS Fasteners e-catalogue enables design engineers, standards managers, and procurement, manufacturing and quality control professionals to dramatically reduce the search time needed to navigate through standards document references.
Users can parametrically refine their searches to a concentrated set of options, shortening their design cycle times and improving parts reuse.
The following are key expanded capabilities and new functionality in the IHS Fasteners e-catalogue.
Intelligent part number searching across 700,000+ AIA/NAS and Mil-Spec standard fasteners helps users quickly find the correct, orderable fastener, instead of only searching by text or standard document numbers.
A common search interface allows separate engineers to make design or redesign decisions quickly, correctly and consistently.
Typical design and engineering processes that could take days to resolve a research request can now be conducted in seconds using the IHS Fasteners e-catalogue.
The e-catalogue reduces part proliferation and unnecessary inventory overstocks resulting from inconsistent and poor parts management processes for engineering and manufacturing requirements.
A leading aviation and aerospace OEM saw potential savings in excess of $8 million dollars annually.
Deep integration with IHS Specs and Standards, IHS CatalogXpress and IHS Haystack Gold databases brings a wealth of critical technical information to a single source, increasing confidence in engineering decision-making.
As the prime standards provider in the new IHS Fasteners e-catalogue tool, the Aerospace Industries Association immediately recognised IHS' valuable investment in bringing this concept to market.
AIA supported and participated in a Beta User Forum, helping guide the IHS Fasteners e-catalogue's content and application development.
"The IHS Fasteners e-catalogue adds significant value to the engineering design process as a close complement to the industry standards themselves", said Matt Williams, Standardisation Director, Aerospace Industries Association.
"The tool's user-friendly design and performance also streamlines parts research".
"We've enjoyed working collaboratively with IHS and customers to design and introduce this great advancement in parts management".
"At approximately $20,000 per new part introduction, the financial impacts to manufacturers are enormous, but still pale in comparison to the liability associated with poor part selection", said Paul Evenson, Senior Vice President, Parts Solutions, IHS.
"By leveraging the IHS Fasteners e-catalogue, companies can improve their selection process via time savings and accuracy, accelerate their parts research and eliminate the risk of lost production time, and still meet and exceed the high demands on strict standards conformance".
The IHS Fasteners e-catalogue is available immediately.
