Alcan Taihan Aluminum signed an agreement with Industrial Automation Services (IAS) to supply and commission a new mill automation system for the No 1 Tandem Cold Mill at Yeongju, South Korea.

The automation system incorporates technology to control strip thickness and tensions and includes a new operator interface.

The system replaces the obsolete automation with the latest technology, using graphical programming/maintenance software and VME based hardware.

Start up is scheduled for mid-2003 and will be achieved with minimal interruption to production.

IAS is currently supplying automation technology for eight mills in Australia, China, Korea and the USA.
