In January 2003, California Steel Industries purchased a Millcheck rolling mill shape performance audit from Industrial Automation Services for its five stand cold mill at Fontana, California, USA.
The Millcheck audit is a systematic approach to the practice of rolling mill shape performance auditing.
The audit set the benchmark of current mill performance and evaluated the impact of potential upgraded instrumentation, actuators and controls and provided diagnosis and correction of specific flatness problems.
A two-week site visit was conducted in January with minimal interruption to production.
During this time, significant improvements were made to shape performance.
The Millcheck report presented in March includes additional recommendations for ongoing shape performance improvements.
