In August 2003, IAS successfully completed the automation system upgrade for the three-stand tandem hot mill at Ormet Aluminum in Hannibal, Ohio USA.

The automation system, as designed and installed by IAS, incorporates new hydraulic gap control and dynamic thickness controls as well as interstand tension control.

The system replaces the existing Mannesmann Maras system with Windows 2000 based graphical programming/maintenance software and VME and Intel based real-time hardware.

Installation and commissioning time was minimised by maintaining all VME based I/O and using maintenance outages for precommissioning checks.

IAS is currently supplying automation technology for nine mills in Australia, China and the USA.
