In a move to recognise and promote professionalism among craftsmen, the Institution of Incorporated Engineers is launching a Register of Engineering Craftsmen.
In a move to recognise and promote professionalism among craftsmen, the Institution of Incorporated Engineers (IIE) will launch the Register of Engineering Craftsmen on 1st September 2005 Inclusion on the register will demonstrate a craftsman's proven knowledge, understanding and competence and set him or her apart from others, giving a vital edge

Jargon buster cuts through the ATEX jungle
ABB has published an "ATEX jargon buster" that helps motor users cut through the jungle of terms and definitions that make up the new ATEX Directives.
At a recent signing of a memorandum of understanding between IIE and the Electrical Contractors' Association (ECA), Peter Wason, IIE Chief Executive, said: "Offering craftsmen registration as professionals will raise the status of the sector which has previously been undervalued".
"Registrants will benefit from a sense of personal achievement and greater self-esteem through meeting UK and international standards, whilst also gaining competitive advantage over those who aren't registered".
ECA Director, David Pollock, equally enthusiastic, said: "Having a professionally recognised workforce will assist companies to secure new contracts and operate more effectively in the market place".
"We are delighted that this groundbreaking collaboration between the IIE and the ECA will support member companies in encouraging their employees to take advantage of professional recognition".
"Engineering craftsmen who choose to register will be entitled to use the post-nominals Engineering Craftsman MIIE".
Registration as a professional engineering craftsman is open to everyone who can demonstrate their competence to perform professional work to the necessary standards and show a commitment to maintaining that competence, working within professional codes and participating actively in the profession.
