Illston and Robson has used its experience in the manufacture of automotive couplings to develop a method of safely preventing unauthorised coupling of trailers.

Principally designed for vehicle-off road (VOR) use, the lock is manufactured to the same high standards as the airline couplings, and is zinc plated to withstand 96 hours minimum salt spray, as are the couplings.

The lock is designed to fit on to the emergency C coupling on the trailer, and is supplied with two keys, for the driver and/or fleet manager.

Locks are usually supplied in quantities from 1 to 200, and have the option, at no extra cost of being keyed alike, that is the same key for all of the locks - essential in a large multitrailer yard.

As a further safety measure, should the keys be lost, replacement keys are available at minimal cost, and can be despatched in most cases in 24 hours.

As the locks are marked individually with key details, for traceability, all key combinations are available.

So far Illston and Robson has received positive feedback on the lock design, and believes it offers a low cost security and safety measure to prevent VOR accidents.

Developments are under way to develop a stainless steel variant, in line with customer demand, and a hardened security version is also available.
