Machine maker switches to 3D CAD

Imass Design Solutions customer ATB Morley has chosen Autodesk Inventor Series and Autodesk Productstream after a thorough industry benchmarking exercise involving 3D CAD software solutions from all the major vendors ATB Morley, a UK-based, leading designer and manufacturer of large, rotating electrical machinery for the mining industry, wanted to migrate from its CoCreate OneSpace 2D drafting software in order to increase design productivity, improve data communication between the design office and shopfloor and to maximise the re-use of data

ATB Morley Technical Manager, Pete Ramsden explains that the Autodesk solution was selected because of its parametric technology, its weld module and also because it is seen as an industry standard.
This was despite the fact that its Austrian-based parent company has standardised on UGS solutions.
"We wanted to move to 3D design and recognised that it would be opportune to implement data management at the same time, extending the benefits further".
"Our main aim is to increase design throughput, meeting the need to continually develop new products", he says.
"All our products are bespoke but we want to be able to re-use as much data as possible to create templates, helping get these products to market faster".
"Autodesk's strong market hold, combined with the fact that all our main customers are users, made it the most obvious choice".
